Chris and Amanda were set up by mutual friends as teenagers, and saw the movie "Happy Feet" on their first date. That was December, 1, 2006. Fast forward seven years to a trip to Luray, VA for their anniversary. On their first day there, Chris and Amanda were taking in the beautiful scenery of Skyline Drive (which, if you have never been to Skyline Drive, you need to because you just don't know what you are missing!). "We got out at the top of the mountain and were climbing up the rocks, and when we got to the top, he pulled out the ring and got down on one knee. I was a crying mess before he could even get the ring out of his pocket," Amanda says. "I tell everyone it's a good thing he wasn't just getting out a piece of gum. I could not have asked for a better proposal, or better man for that matter!"
We met up with Chris and Amanda down at Jefferson Patterson Park on a gorgeous (albeit blustery!) autumn day for their engagement session. Jefferson Patterson Park is one of our favorite places for portraits because the grounds provide a wide variety of beautiful backdrops -- from the shoreline of the Patuxent River to the barns (you know I love my barns) to open fields, to reeds and rushes -- this place has it all. They followed us uphill, downhill, around the hill, over a broken boardwalk, and through the sand. Amanda had worked with us before on a stylized shoot, so she knew us and what to expect. Chris followed her lead like a pro and before we knew it, we were all laughing and carrying on like old friends. We had a great time with them, and they were such troupers! Besides, any day where four football fanatics get together is a good day. :-)
Chris and Amanda, thank you for a wonderful day! We can't wait to photograph your wedding in April!
